Drop In

The goal this year has been to drop in the vert ramp at creation and last friday I was ready to go for it.
Now it is just a case of doing it more and fighting the fear that comes from the extra speed created by
the drop. I am very stoked to still be achieving new goals in skateboarding at 39 and see it as a massive step with going into more unknown areas. This has challenged me mentally and physically, but above all I have had to block out the aspergers because it really does'nt like new scary stuff.
Very stoked.

Curb Commander

Dan Crilly shot some footage at the Skate Day at Perdiswell on Saturday,
I like how this clip catches a view of the park and the sound of the great
band Olanza playing a rocking set. Needless to say it was a great day.

This Should Be Good

It's looking like the summer has really got going and I am looking forward to this event at the end of July. Get yourself out and do some skating, hear some live music and see great tricks go down.

May Bank Holiday

The end of May was my birthday and over the bank holiday weekend I went to Cornwall to watch a Vert Comp and met at perdiswell for a little session before we braved the worst traffic ever.

Useless steps at perdi so we drew a line to imagine a bank, can you see it?

Spergers-skate

I have found that skating vert has had a positive effect on my aspergers, because I never know what is coming next from a session. It is mostly true with any skate session that it is different every time, but with big ramp skating I have not learnt any thing before so the outcome is totally unkown!

Frontside Grind

This is more of the progression I have been working on with my vert riding. I even got back to back grinds the other night one frontside and the next backside. My kickturns need to be as late as possible to get the height for these. It would be great to learn some sliding moves or an elevator stall. February has shown I can keep moving forward with a steady commitment each week.

dance

Disco is not like skateboarding, but you can respect the different sub genres in the art-form.
Skateboarding on transitions has many different disciplines and each one deserves respect.
From bowls and pools to mini ramp and spines to vertical and over-vert cradles, each activity has its own unique challenges that push you skills further. With street, curbs and flatground are different to banks and ledges or rails, stairs and gaps presenting a whole variety of different approaches to riding your skateboard. So maybe it is like disco?

Loving Skateboard Tales

Since I reported my own skateboard tales recently I decided to watch the Girl/Chocolate short film called Wet Dream. It has got me stoked on skating street seeing Mike Carroll through down a heel flip and Gino and Rick Howard sessoining a 1/4 pipe makes me want to get out there and be glad I can axle stall and rock fakie, now do it with more style!

12 Skates Of Christmas

Over my 16 days holiday I have managed to step up my skate sessions to a very full timetable.
Now I am pushing 40, so to get in 3 skates over 7 days can be demanding. I have proved to myself that I can fit in 2 vert sessions a week and session at my little park and mini ramp in between. Street sessions have been really fun and I am so inspired to get out and build up a new diy spot in 2015. Most of my progress with big ramp skating has been to gain confidence grinding and make a backside grind on vertical. I am turning with more control, grabing the nose on turns and getting 3 wheels out in a cheating way with the 3rd wheel on the coping when I kickturn frontside on the vert. A correct 3 wheels out is with the 4th wheel on the coping. I am having fun anyway and some of my mental blocks should pass with time. It has been frustrating to struggle at simple parts of my skating but I am just over thinking some things and when having fun in the session with others I forget these hang ups and get as much as I can out of it. No more skate-spergers.
Going skating 3-4 times a week all through December was so Rad and I can't wait for my next week off sometime in Feb, who cares about the winter weather when you can skate indoor parks.
